Zemplén Hungarian style Barrels are manufacture exclusively from the world's best oak wood, the Quercus Petraea/Sessile
The oak trees in the Zemplén Mountains grow slower in the volcanic soil and smaller, creating fine grain which sequentially lends itself to a very delicate extraction.
The hemicellulose in Eastern European oak breaks down much more easily, and conveys an exceptional selectio of toasted, vanilla, sugary, woody, spicy and caramel-like flavors.
Many winemakers prefer the softer, smoother, creamier texture Hungarian oak offers their wines.
French winemakers used mostly Hungarian oak barrels until the middle of the XX. century, then - because of the supply cut - the French wine industry was forced to find its own oak source. However, after the fall of the "Iron Curtain", the cooperages from France, again became major consumers of the unique Quercus Petraea/Sessile Hungarian Oak trees, originated in the Zemplén Mountain Forest.
The finest available oak woods have the tightest grain what will provide the best result in winemaking.
